Ten Years and More
I really liked the poem “Ten Years and More” by Miriam Waddington because it really shows the emotion and the feelings behind a breakup and the separation of a family. The poem is written in a broken form where you can tell that if it were read as written then it would sound like someone was crying. I think that the way it is written in an effective way to have written the poem, because again it helps show the emotions that this woman is feeling. I found the poem very sad because I know that it hurts to lose someone, and to know that maybe it could have worked out. The diction used in “un-/ hammered nails/ pictures never/ hung all/ the uneaten/ meals and unslept/ sleep…” really shows that they had a life, and they were going somewhere, they had all the pictures, and the meals were cooked and they tired to sleep, but it was cut off. “Un” really means that something was started but not finished, so it really shows how their life together was cute short. In the end she is asking for forgiveness because her husband, or her ex-husband, is passing away. She says that she does forgive him and that the blame for their break up was shared between the two of them. Personally I really liked the poem because it was very real and it really shows how people feel and the emotions they go through when they lose their love, and their life.
